GMail Labs Adds "Canned Responses": Save Time With FAQs

It seems that GMail has released another feature to GMail Labs: "Canned Responses". With this new feature enabled, you can save a lot of time with frequently asked questions, since you won’t have to repeat yourself again and again. You can even automatically send messages using filters.

So, for example if you offer consulting services to people online, then instead of typing out a reply every time you get a consulting query, you can just type it once and save it as a Canned Response and reply to consulting queries in seconds using your canned response!

Another use is if you’re a blogger and you pitch your articles regularly to other people. In this case you can save a draft template as a Canned Response and you won’t even have to copy-paste the template every time!

Cool, huh?

Here’s how to enable the Canned Reponses feature in GMail:

  1. Open GMail, and go to "Settings"
  2. Click on the last tab, "Labs"
  3. Scroll down and look for "Canned Responses". Enable it, and click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom

  1. If you have an image in a draft reply and you wish to make the draft reply into a canned response then you will see the image is missing although a placeholder is visible when trying to use it.
